Track Manager : Robert Kornegay

Robert Kornegay has lots of history in ArkLaTex drag racing. He is the former owner of Hallsville Drag Strip in Hallsvlle,Tx. as well as White House Drag strip in the Tyler Tx. area. and Prescott Raceway Park in Prescott Ar. He also was tower director and division director for IHRA from 1975 thru 1986.For the last 15 years he has been the competion director for Good Guys/Vintage Racing Association out of Alamo,Ca. Robert is also highly respected by the community and by racers.

Track Information and History

The track is built on over 200 acres of land and located 23 miles north of Shreveport on Highway 71, in Gilliam, Louisiana. The facility houses a 1/4 mile long racing surface with approximately 1/2 mile of shut down area. Smooth and level, the concrete and asphalt track will accommodate dragsters capable of speeds exceeding 315 miles per hour. The track was built in 1998. The elevation is 192.5 feet above sea level.

Bleacher style seats for 7,500 have been constructed with plans for several more in the future. There is a three story timing tower with several suites. There are concession stands, a souvenir shop and fully functional restrooms.

Thunder Road Raceway Park is an IHRA sanctioned track. The facility is open to professional racers and the general public who want to race their vehicles in a safe and exciting environment. There is a class for every vehicle, as well as bikes. You must undergo a safety inspection before being allowed to race.

In addition to a full compliment of emergency teams available at every race, the track itself has a number of safety features in the design. With 1/2 mile of shut down area that incorporates a sand trap, the track has plenty of room to handle top fuel cars as well as any emergency situations that might arise. Concrete retaining walls line both sides of the track going above and beyond current safety requirements. Safety is a top concern and every precaution is taken to ensure that the track is not only fun, but safe.
